Merging icon in Illustrator.

This is from Illustrator Foundations

I am attempting to merge all my object in Illustrator using merge under the pathfinder panel.

For some reason it is removing all of the objects with a stroke and no solid colored center. I have made sure they are all the same exact color, but it still is cutting a large potion of the icon if I try to merge.

I am not sure how to attach a snipping image of the icon.

edit:

After some poking around I was able to fix most of it, but the outside edge of the moon is still being removed every time.

helpx.adobe.com says "Merge: Removes the part of a filled object that is hidden. It removes any strokes and merges any adjoining or overlapping objects filled with the same color."

If you don't want the stroke removed try Add from pathfinders. This will take on the attributes of the top object.
