MySQL 5.7.10 - Was assigned a temp password during install and it won't work.Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost'

I copied and pasted the temporary password when it was given during installation, so i am positive it is correct, but every time i attempt to Test Connection i am prompted for the password and it doesn't seem to work - Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES) I am sure I'm using the exact password it assigned me! Any advice is appreciated.

Can you log in to your phpmyadmin? if so you will be able to reset the database password. If you will be prompt for password once trying to login to phpmyadmin try user: root pass: root

and if this does not work leave the password empty and try to log in

Make sure you are indeed connecting to your server via the 127.0.0.1 address. It starts up on 0.0.0.0 which means it can come up on your numbered host interface also. If you connect via that then your source address will not be localhost (127.0.0.1) which means you won't match that root@localhost user entry.

I'm facing the same problem as well. Is it fixed for you, Jeff?

No luck with that version. I had to completely uninstall MySQL and used the link to the older version that treehouse provided.
