mysqld@localhost vs Local Instance 8889

In the Database Foundations course, we created a new...something. Not really sure what yet, as the course just started and it's all quite confusing for someone like myself coming from a Graphic Design background (especially seeing as the videos show an older version of MySQL Workbench and the layout and installation procedures have changed significantly...

Anyways, Andrew starts demonstrating on "localhost" rather than the "mysqld@localhost" which he had JUST told us to create...and that would be fine, but when I try to run what shows up on my Workbench as "Local Instance 8889" (and I'm just assuming that's the same as his "localhost", because Workbench looks very different in the newer version) I get the following error message:

"Command to start the server is not configured. Please set the command that must be used to start the server in the remote management section of this connections settings."

I'm not sure if I should be trying to configure this...host? ...whatever it is... but I'm really lost trying to set the Connection Method and configure the Remote Management. WAY over my head with this. Or should I just run this lesson off of the mysqld@localhost (which runs just fine.) Is there some reason he is using this other host?

What he first created was under the Server Administration section of his workspace, but then he starts using localhost under the SQL Development section of his workspace. I don't even understand what the difference is between these two, let alone know if I should concern myself with these differences.

Time for an update TreeHouse! Outdated tutorials are more of a hindrance than a help.

Can anyone offer any advice?
