do-while loops execute the code in the do portion first before checking if it should loop. So just enclose what you have (tweaked minorly) inside a do-while loop and add the condition at the bottom.

String response;
do {

  response = console.readLine("Do you understand do while loops?");

} while (response.equals("yes"));
