General Discussion

Need advice on what I should learn

The health insurance company I work for has specific departments devoted to IT and programming. They work a lot with SQL but they require that you have experience first. Some of the jobs have JavaScript knowledge requirements and they don't require experience. I signed up for treehouse and don't know where to start. I'm kind of intrigued by the tech degree but it's a lot of money for me to pay. Please help.

Tracks are a good place to start. You could choose Javascript or SQL and it will give your learning some direction. There is a Beginner Javascript and a Beginner SQL track.

Hey George,

If you think learning JavaScript would be useful for your career, there's plenty of course material for you here! I would probably recommend the Beginner Javascript track, and then either Front End Development or Full Stack Javascript Development track.

Good luck!

Cheers :beers:

Java script is a little more difficult than HTML. I'm wondering if starting out with basic html would be better then advancing to javascript and sql later.

I'd recommend trying the beginner front end track then. It'll give you an intro to HTML/ CSS and JavaScript and how they all fit together. https://teamtreehouse.com/tracks/front-end-web-development

If you're starting from scratch and not sure what to learn then just jump in and try something. It won't be time wasted because you can apply most of the same principles to other languages.
