Networking Thursday

Hey Treehouse Students!

Welcome back to another Networking Thursday, where you can make connections with other Treehouse Students! You can also stop by our Treehouse Festival from 11am-12pm PST today and tomorrow (12/10 & 12/11) for one-on-one video networking sessions with other Treehouse students and festival attendees!

💬 How to participate:

Icebreaker Activity

  1. Answer the icebreaker activity – What's your favorite tech conference?
  2. Introduce yourself!
  3. Share your LinkedIn profile URL for other students to connect to
  4. Share links and/or screenshots of the projects you've been working on
  5. Share your interests, hobbies, etc!
  6. Chat with other students here by responding to their posts!

Make those connections, support each other, leave some endorsements/recommendations on other student's LinkedIn profiles, lend a helping hand to folx in search of work in tech, and give some positive feedback on fellow student's projects. We're all on this learning journey together!

I'll kick things off! 💬

I'm Ryan Mouser, the Content & Community Marketing Specialist here at Treehouse. My pronouns are he/him. I was 15 years old when I started learning to code in PHP for a popular text-based MMORPG game. I've been with Treehouse for over 2 years now and have had the amazing opportunity to wear many different hats. I've been learning with Treehouse since 2015 (you can check out my previous profile here).

Currently, I'm working alongside our world-class team on some exciting opportunities to bring the Treehouse Community closer together. Stay tuned! 😀

Outside of Treehouse, I have the joy of living life with my incredible wife, our 3 awesome kids, and our 2 cat furbabies. We love to make music, garden, cook, play games, and watch fun TV.

Besides the Treehouse Festival, which I believe is a fantastic launching point for tech careers and learning from diverse perspectives... some other great conferences are Tech Inclusion, AfroTech, and the Grace Hopper Celebration. There are tons of other great tech conferences out there! Excited to hear your thoughts.

You can connect with me on LinkedIn here. Looking forward to connecting with y'all!

Happy networking! :)

Hello everyone!

My name is Tyler and I am a graduate of the Front-End Web Development TD, and currently going through the FullStack JS TD.

I have yet to attend a conference due to my current schedule. But hopefully when I get more time, I would like to attend the conferences for React!

Aside from the Techdegree work, I have worked on snippets for UI components and CSS images. These can be found in my CodePen!

I am also in the middle of an interview process for a Front-End Dev position at a local PR/Marketing Agency; about to finish up their take-home project today!

I am a classically-trained musician on trumpet, and currently a corporate retail music store manager seeking a career change, but would still like to be active on my instrument! Other hobbies have dwindled to mostly fishing lately lol

I would like to connect with UI/UX designers so I have someone to chat with about the relationships between designer and dev and learn from each other on how we would improve that connection; maybe come up with a project to help work on that!

Check out my LinkedIn Profile.

Happy coding!

Hey guys and gals,

My name is Craig and I live in the beautiful state of Washington in the US. My favorite conference(s) are DEFCON and CES. There are many interesting DEFCON videos on YouTube if anyone is interested, I highly recommend them!

I'm new to the FSJS community and just finished Unit 1 yesterday, so I don't have a lot to show just yet. I look forward to getting to know everyone better as I progress, and would love to work with anyone on projects they have, just to get some experience under my belt. Hit me up!

Ultimately I'm looking to do remote work and freelancing when I'm able to secure some work, let me know if you share the same goals. I'd love to hear what your plans are... maybe we can't even exchange ideas on how to make it happen.

Hey there folx, my name is Zach Smith and I'm a recent graduate of the Full Stack JavaScript Techdegree here at Treehouse. My journey in programming began in May of this year once I decided I wanted to pursue programming / web development as my career path! Before that, I served for seven years as an officer in the United States Army and then worked as a retail manager and broker for a bit after that - then I opened the wide world of tech!

Feel free to reach out to me on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/zach-smith-99541489/. I'm based in Dallas-Fort Worth but willing to connect with anyone who shares the passion of improving themselves as a coder. You'll find a link to my github (don't look if you're in the FSJS TD :D) and within the next few days, I will add my personal profile page on Heroku once it is in a presentable state. Happy coding, everyone!

Added you on LI, Zach :)

All the best!

Hi all!

I missed the forum yesterday...busy day. But, better late than never! I haven't attended any tech conferences, but when I get back to the states I'm going to make sure that I try to attend at least PAX and hopefully SXSW. I'm more of a casual gamer than I used, to be but hopefully once I land a developer job I can put a few more hours into my hobby. I also enjoy baking and mixology, so I'm hoping to put together a couple of recipe apps!

I'm a graduate of the FEWD TechDegree here at Treehouse and am currently working on the FSJS TechDegree. After that I'm hoping to add some data analysis and maybe some cybersecurity to my skills. There is so much to learn in tech and I feel like a kid in a candy store. I'm having a lot of trouble talking myself out of being a jack-of-all-trades/master-of-none kind of developer....any insight would be much appreciated, haha.

Anyway, find me on linkedin and github, and stop by my portfolio. I'm always looking for connections and feedback!
