No matter where I put - .text() - it seems to be wrong.

Apparently there is something I am not getting here and I am feeling a little lost.

weather.js
$(document).ready(function() {
  var weatherAPI = 'http://api.openweathermap.org/data/2.5/weather';

  var temperature = weatherReport.main.temp
  var data = {
    q : "Portland,OR",
    units : "metric"
  };

 function showWeather(weatherReport)    {

 $('#temperature').html();

 $.getJSON(weatherAPI, temperature, data);

 };
});
index.html
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
  <meta charset="utf-8">
  <title>What's the Weather Like?</title>
  <script src="jquery.js"></script>
  <script src="weather.js"></script>
</head>
<body>
  <div id="main">
    <h1>Current temperature: <span id="temperature"></span>&deg;</h1>
  </div>
</body>
</html>

You will use .text() instead of .html(). And the challenge tells you what argument to give it.

And you won't need "getJSON" for this challenge.

You mean $('#temperature').text(); ?

Yes, and pass the argument they tell you to use in the instructions.

It's starting to make sense, thanks.
