Okay, I'm a little lost. Why isn't this correct? const inputValue = document.getElementById('linkText');

In the HTML code, the input ID is "linkText", so I'm not sure why that is wrong. Can anybody help?

You are selecting the element correctly, but that's not what this challenge means by value.

        <input type="text" id="linkText" value="sample text">

Try selecting the value attribute of the input element.
