I drew this logo in Adobe Illustrator after taking a few of the courses here on TreeHouse. I've shown it to about three people and had mixed reactions... I was wondering if you all could tell me what you think overall - but mostly what you see in the illustration?
I don't want to say yet what I'm going for because I've had different reactions on what people would've seen or would not have seen if I hadn't told them... so for purity's sake... I'll let you tell me. :)

I get the initial impression of writing something ( ink pot and scribe ), then i see the wifi from the top of the pot so i wonder if its something to do with turning print into digital media.
Comments on logo, if your going for a realistic look, i don't see the need for the grey outline on the ink pot, i think it would be good without it, if you could extend the effect of reflection on the neck a bit lower, maybe remove the black outline from the wifi image.

12,216 PointsI agree with Wayne about removing the black outline from the wifi logo. There isn't much contrast between the black and dark blue so it doesn't really add much but does cause some obvious aliasing. Also, you have a drop shadow below the ink container but have a reflection off the neck. If it's casting a shadow like that it's because the light is behind the container. Either you should remove the drop shadow or you should remove the reflection. If you do leave the drop shadow, I would change the width so that it matches the width of the ink container.

8,664 PointsThanks for the feedback! I was torn about what was going on with the reflection and shadows and this helps to clarify why I need to stick with one or other... I'll probably remove the drop shadow and keep the reflection.

6,522 PointsI have to admit I didn't actually see the ink pot until I read the comments here. My first impression was that it was an upside-down computer monitor. I guess this is due to the blue background which looks like your typical desktop wallpaper. I'd suggest that you move the text outside of the symbol. Not only to make the ink pot image more clear, but also to keep the text legible as you scale down the logo. At the moment the text is quite small compared to the symbol.

Both perspectives were right in the sense that when I designed it I had in mind to try to make an inverted iMac monitor look like an ink well. So at least I know that people are seeing both images - just not at the same time. :)
The upside down monitor is why I had the little gray border, but maybe I could just make the top gray/white to make it look like the ink only goes so far inside a glass ink pot and more closely resemble the look of the iMac? If I did that, should I only use the blue color and ditch the black, or only use black (as ink can be either color)?
