Photoshop Foundations Layer Masks

I'm currently working on the photoshop foundations section of the web design track. I have an image which I have selected and created a mask. On the video it says select-->refine mask, however I don't have this option all I have is refine edge. I'm a bit confused as this seems to be slightly different, so why would refine mask not be an option?

I'm not sure what I've done different. Any help would be great.

Chloe,

What version of Photoshop are you using?

Chloe,

I did a little research on your problem. "Refine Mask" and "Refine Edge" get used interchangeably. If you are using Photoshop CS5 or higher there should be a "Refine Edge" button that appears in your Control Panel at the top of the Photoshop window. In CS4 the "Refine Edge" button is located in the Mask palette. "Refine Edge" has a lot of the same functionality as "Refine Mask".

If you are working in an older version of Photoshop I did stumble on an interesting video that covers a lot of the same concepts of layer masks from a different angle as far as selecting the image to mask.

I hope this helps!

I'm using Cs4. Thanks for help will have a look at video.

Not a problem!
