can anyone advise what I'm doing wrong here... I seem to be missing something.

I'm not sure you'd want the whole string to be stored in $fullName variable, it's just good for nothing. try rather to maintain the $fullName variable stick to what its name indicates, a fullName !

You don't need to put quote marks around
$firstNameand$lastNamein your$fullNamevariable. You obviously still need the space, though, so the correct way to go would be as follows...$fullName = $firstName . ' ' . $lastName;Do you understand? Please let me know if you have any questions!
