Pricing

Hello,

I have a client that wants A Shopify store designing and developing. I have no idea how to price this project up, how much should I be charging for this project?

I would consider both how long it would take you and how valuable it will be for the client.

Shopify has a partner program where you can earn 20% of any Shopify fees the client pays (from monthly fees and transaction fees) after you set the site up for them. If you are going to have an ongoing income from the site from the partner program then you could that into consideration as well. I wouldn't necessarily lower your regular price due to the partner program though as you have no guarantee how long the store would be open for.

Is the client happy using an existing free or paid theme, or are you making a custom one? Who is in charge of what for the store? Are you expected to add all the products, upload (and perhaps edit) photos, write descriptions, write page titles and meta descriptions, etc? If you have not done so already it would be a good idea to find all of those things out before trying to come up with a price.

Hi,

That's a difficult question and I'd be interested to hear how people do it. I think it depends on your current situation and lifestyle.

One way of doing it would be to work out how much you want to pay yourself per hour, then estimate how many hours you think the project will take. Then take into account the cost of any hosting,templates, plugins, stock images, fonts and any other costs associated with the project.

Are you doing this on the side or are you also employed? If this is your only form on income, you'll probably need to account for living expenses as well.

How many hours it takes isn't exactly easy to estimate, so make sure you add enough margin for error.

There are lots of pricing calculators available that people have made, I suggest you look at a few to get some ideas then make your own using a spreadsheet.
