Problems installing Ubuntu

I'm trying to install Ubuntu onto my windows 8 computer. Every time I boot from a usb I get the option to install Ubuntu. I click install and then the screen goes black. I waited for 4 hours and nothing happened. Whenever I boot from a cd it just boots windows. If anyone can help that would be awesome!

Are there any computer science wizards out there who might be able to offer an idea? I wonder if this is up Joy Kesten's street :-)

Hey Tristan!

On Windows 8, there is a Secure Boot functionality. If your system uses this functionality, you won't be able to dual-boot when you have it enabled (Secure Boot is used to prove that hardware is genuine however, can be disabled).

There are instructions on Disabling the Secure Boot functionality on Microsoft's Technet page here

Try this out and, if you are still having problems, give me a shout :)

That worked!!! Thank you so much. You're a life saver!
