Purpose of shapes in design

Hello, I found a design on Dribbble. It has rectangles on the image. What is the purpose of this kind of design? Does it do anything other than adding visual interest?

Here's another example on Dribbble. It uses a lot of squares in the design.

Can anyone tell me what is the purpose of these design ornaments / geometry? Thank you.

The 45 degree angle squares (diamonds) have been trending in web design for a while.

They come under the use of using strong diagonal lines in design to portray: Action, Motion, Excitement, Beauty, Symmetry and Progression.

Strong diagonal lines are also currently being used in typeface to grab viewers attention.
