Pursuing mastery in webdev further

Thanks to treehouse I've got a job as web developer. I practice my skills every day. But here is a question that I encounter often nowadays. I see these amazing websites with beautiful design, layout and cool tricks like animations. How can I dive in deeper and learn all this new-to-me stuff?

I have been working in Creative Digital agency for more than a decade. So my comment here is rather specific to the industry that I am in.

Though many developers can design, some better than others, most of them are specialists. Specialist in the sense that, developers don't usually design the website they're building (and vice versa). Instead developers will work with the creative/art directors as well as web designers. However, I understand that this may not be the case for freelance developers, who are often also the designers.

So, my first question to you would be, do you see yourself more as a developer or a designer? From there, you can grow to be more specialised in that area.

There's really no shortcut in mastering the skills than to actually spend years doing it. Be continually growing and expanding in your skills at your workplace. Don't stay complacent and be satisfied with your skills. I have seen so many people over the years who stop learning, and a result stop growing.

Good luck!
