Do you have more specifics on the error? For those coming along anytime after this it's a good idea to provide as much detailed information as possible so people can help. A lot of times an error message will tell us exactly what is wrong.

I just got the same issue. Upon clicking the download button, it should begin to display the progress percentage rate. But instead, the button does nothing for a second and then it's replaced simply with "error". No other error codes or additional information is provided. If you click on the button again, it will change to "please wait", but nothing happens. That said, hovering over the button will display the message "Error: Connection timed out after 5005 milliseconds"

Thanks to the magic of google, I discovered that Unity's servers don't work well when you're using a proxy server. Once I disabled all proxy servers on Safari, I was able to download the stack successfully. If you're defaulting to IE, just turn off 'use proxy'.
