Seasonal Colors?

This is a request for designers.

I'm wanting to create a set of colors for a website which represent each of the four seasons. I'm thinking:

Summer: Red

Autumn: Orange

Winter: Blue

Spring: Green

The website will have 4 pages each of which is themed with it's seasonal color in a monochromatic design.

Question 1: Do these seasonal colors seem right, if not what do you think is better suited?

Question 2: I'm having trouble selecting the right # colors for each season, they need to be pleasing to look at and not over the top, as well as easy to view. How can I achieve this most effectively? Can any designer recommend a set of # values that are complimentary? Or give tips on color design?

Hello Clinton!

To answer your first question;

1) I would change Summer's color from red to yellow, personally. Red can come off as an aggressive or too intense of a color; yellow is much more pleasing, and is a relaxing color (like summer- relaxation and having fun!).

As for question two; 2) I would check out http://www.w3schools.com/tags/ref_colorpicker.asp to find the colors most suitable for your project. It is an easy to use tool that lets you choose a base color first, then a particular shade. Within a minute, you can have a color selected that matches your requirements perfectly. As for recommending a set of values, part of this will also depend on what is pleasing to you; a designer can tell you what people 'NEED', but if the designer is not pleased as well, it will distract from the quality.

As for Summer, I'd go with a medium-shade of yellow; nothing too intense, but something light, something that reminds us of sunshine. As for Autumn, a nice pumpkin orange color (maybe even just a tad lighter) would suffice, for sure. As for Winter, I'd personally choose a rich blue, that remains just a bit light. For Spring, I'd recommend a full & rich med-light green color.

If you insist on having some dark colors, I'd recommend Spring, Winter, or Autumn. If you begin looking at popular site designs, you'll notice that 'cartoony' and light colors are very much in fashion; they are typically more pleasing to look at, and are more 'fun' colors, as opposed to darker ones, which can come across as intense.

Feel free to make additional threads asking for feedback along the way! Good luck.
