Squared not working, but works in regular shell

I have it set up right i believe but treeehouse says its doesn't get the right answer

squared.py

# squared(5) would return 25
# squared("2") would return 4
# squared("tim") would return "timtimtim"
def squared(thing):
    def square_string(string):
        return string * len(string)
    try:
        return int(thing * thing)
    except TypeError:
          square_string(thing)

Your solution might be a bit complex for the checker, try simplifying it a bit. In particular, try removing the method declaration.

Just try returning a square using an int conversion, and if it gives an exception, return the "square string".
