JavaScript JavaScript Basics (Retired) Creating Reusable Code with Functions Create a max() Function

Stuck on JavaScript Code Challenge. What am I doing wrong?

The challenge is: Create a new function named max() which accepts two numbers as arguments. The function should return the larger of the two numbers. You'll need to use a conditional statement to test the 2 numbers to see which is the larger of the two.

Hello! I am going through my notes but I am stuck on this code challenge. What am I doing wrong?

script.js
var bigNum = (9);
var smallNum = (5);
function max( bigNum, smallNum) {
  if (bigNum === true) {
  return (bigNum);
  }
}

You're missing the part where you compare the two numbers to see which is bigger. Right now you're just checking to see if bigNum === true. Try something like this:

var bigNum = (9);
var smallNum = (5);
function max( bigNum, smallNum) {
  if (bigNum > smallNum) {
   return bigNum;
  } else {
   return smallNum;
  }
}

thanks, Eric (and OP), helped me out as well.

Thank you Eric. I had returned to the challenge and wrote a whole new code and it worked. You're right. I hadn't used the 'else'. This is what finally worked.

function max (num1, num2) { if (num1 > num2) { return num1; } else { return num2; } }

but, now I'm having trouble on the second question. Ugh. Thank you for your quick response!!
