Suggestions for pricing on e-commerce website

So I have a possible client who came to me asking for an e-commerce site, with some features I have not worked with before.

Client wants a website similar to www.kiniswimwear.com. A bikini store with an option to make your own bikini with color/texture/shape/pattern variety (which you can view live on the site).

I have no idea how much to charge for this project. I am used to doing $500 - $750 static HTML/CSS responsive websites.

Any suggestions, with the website provided - how much should I charge for this?

Well sounds like a bespoke plugin/extension, would estimate this to be a $1500+ job but I don't know your local rates.

Check out what e-com platform they want to use and if there are any similar plugins/extensions you can manipulate. It might not be the exact functionality they want but they're a start up and can't have the world.

I suspect you'll need to map an image to the shape of the bikini which could prove tricky and require some clever JS. I'd also check if the client has thought of how they're going to actually produce the bikini once the customer has sent them a PNG/JPEG.

Is there is an easier/quicker/cheaper way they could trial this custom bikini idea out? Perhaps have the customer email a JPG/PNG via an upload form and the client mock it up to make sure it's a business viable before spending $$$ on it.

If they come build it, if not you'ave saved yourself money and a headache.

Thanks for your input Christian. I actually contacted a few design firms to get a quote as a client. That system turns out to be quite complicated, and prices ranged from $5,000 to $20,000+...

I sent the client a quick price estimate for a basic e-commerce @ $1,250 (without the system), and another quote for $6,500 including the system.

Luckily I didn't put much effort into making a fancy proposal and really figuring out the system to make the bikinis on site... The client did not want to spend over $500 (yes, FIVE HUNDRED - for a full custom made e-commerce site with the on site bikini maker). Ha ha ha!
