SVG fonts

Hi,

Is there anything I can do in illustrator to make the text in my SVG not reliant on the user having the font? As in make the font used part of the shape, like rastering without losing the scalablity. I have a simple letter inside of a shape as an icon but when it is displayed on the web the font changes and the look is completely different.
