svgs??

I've been looking round the internet recently and saw a lot of people talking about SVGs. I've done a bit of reading round on what they are but I can't really get my head round them.

If possible could someone answer a few of my questions??

Why use SVGs?

What are they good for? what are their benefits?

Where is the best place to start learning them?
