syntax error in function

I'm just stuck and need an extra set of eyes. I've tried many versions of this. Thx.

function max(age, weight) {
  var age = 2;
  var weight = 30;
} 
if (age <= weight) {
  return max weighs + " " pounds;
}
max();

Hi Rachel,

Looks like you declaring the values for your variables inside of the max function, while the actual nuts and bolts of the max function is outside of the {} brackets. If you remove the variable declaration section and simply call the function inside of the alert call, you should be fine.

Here's how I completed the tasks:

function max(age, weight) {
  if (age > weight) {
    return age
  } else {
    return weight
  }  
} 

alert(max(10, 24));

Your return function looks funky. max weighs should either be a single variable or in quotes.
