Tab completion not working for git checkout on command line?

Unlike in the video, I am not getting any tab completion when using git checkout on the command line even adding the first 7 digits of the commit hash number.

git checkout only seems to work when I add the entire hash.

This is especially strange since using git diff with the first 5 digits of two commit numbers works.

I'm using Linux with bash, and tab completion generally works. Anyone know if maybe I have some setting or flag that needs to changed? Or what?

Using git version 2.11.0

Thanks, Keith
