The correct settings for a web image using Photoshop

Hi Everyone,

I want to create an image using Photoshop which will then be inserted into my company's website. However, when I have done this before, I noticed the images can look blurry.

Therefore my question is; is there a correct setting in Photoshop 4 that I need to select to ensure my images look good and not blurry?

Thanks in advance, Gareth

Since PS is bitmap, you'll want your canvas size to be at least as large as you want the image you are going to create to be. If it's going to just be a web image and not print, you should be fine setting the dpi or ppi to 72 instead of the print setting of 300. This will save a lot in data size.

Than, just create your image, and I would use the "Save for web" feature if PS 4 has that. (I assume you are talking about CS4). Pick your format whether it be gif, png or jpg and the quality that will allow the image to be clear, but as small as possible and save it out.

There are many reasons a photo could have become blurry, but it shouldn't be hard to make sure it doesn't happen. Not much to it.

If you haven't, check out the deep dive on PS here. It'll certainly help you. I learned some stuff myself from it even though most of it I already knew, it was worth my time.

Good luck.
