Unable to change permalinks to postname.

Hope somebody can help!

I am working locally using Mamp on my laptop with wordpress. Once I clicked use post name in the permalinks settings I could no longer view any other pages other than the home page. I googled it and it seems it is due to Mamp not supporting .htaccess files, or something to do with permissions?

Does anybody no how to fix this? I am sure there is a way.

Thanks very much for that. That helped. I ended up buying the pro version of Mamp which does now support rewriting the permamlinks.
