unable to install desktop server

I have been trying to install Desktop server on my pc, windows 10, but over and over I receive a message that reads: "It appears like you have another web server already running on port 80. Desktop server cannot be installed". Then I went to the server press support page where I found this link:

http://docs.serverpress.com/article/157-error-it-appears-you-have-another-web-server-already-running-on-port-80-on-windows

It gives a link to download a program that can identify and kill the processes that use port 80. The problem is that although I killed some processes such as skype, dropbox, and chrome; the program seems to be unable to kill some other processes. Any idea on how to install desktop server? another way around? or Is there an alternative to desktop server in case I am unable to install it?

Hey there Edgardo,

I'm solely a Mac boy, so I'm not sure I can help you troubleshoot Windows 10. However, even on a Mac, I never liked using Desktop Server. I, personally, found MAMP (WAMP for Windows) to be just what is needed.

Have a look at the Treehouse Workshop for setting up a local development environment for Windows.

Keep Coding! :)

Just noticed the category you posted this in. You can also have a look at Wordpress local development.

Both are essentially the same, but... more specific.

Hello Jason,

Thank you very much for your quick response. I went through the course you suggested. It is still a little bit confusing to me to watch one video on Xampp and the next one on Mamp but I think I will be able to figure it out. I am trying Xampp and seems to work fine although there are still some issues with it running in Windows 10. The nice thing is that I am learning so much, Thank you.

Hi Edgardo,

Is there a specific reason you want manually install? The issue is probably coming from your running an IIS server on your machine that is already listening for serving requests on port 80.

Unless you have some pressing need to do otherwise I would take Jason's advice and just run WAMP
