Version Control Suggestions?

I'm looking to incorporate version control for a new project. I want to have version control where my repository is private. I WON'T need to collaborate with any other developers either.

Now I'm not very experienced with GitHub but I understand that the GitHub repositories are saved on the GitHub servers? I also understand that all GitHub repositories are PUBLIC unless you are playing for GitHub enterprise.

Is there another free alternative to GitHub enterprise? Or alternatively, is there a way to incorporate version control to my local computer?

Hey Daniel,

Github is a repository that works with Git to store information/code. Git is the version control system, and it works locally on your computer. If you're not working/collaborating with anyone else, you can just use Git.

Jason is correct, you could just use Git, and that would keep your version control private.

You are also correct Daniel, that you have to pay a small monthly fee to have a private repo on Github.

Bitbucket offers free private repos if your team is 5 or less, which you would be. So bitbucket might be a good alternative to having a visual way to look at your repo that is private.
