VSCode Type Error on "req.message"

When discussing sending a custom property value from one middleware function to another in the "Middleware Sequence and Routing" videos, I receive a typescript error on req.message:

Property 'message' does not exist on type 'Request<ParamsDictionary, any, any, ParsedQs, Record<string, any>>' ts(2339)

Of course this course isn't accounting for type checking -- and my VSCode setup lights this up immediately -- but would this mean that this approach is not common, and purely an example to show how data would be passed between middleware functions?
