Web hosting advice

Hi guys,

my company www.masteel.co.uk use a web hosting service that costs in excess of £3000 per year. I am of the belief that we can get a much better deal. These are services being offered by UKFast:

1 x Dedicated Server Solution

1 x vega 3100 - Dell Core2Duo E7300 (2x2.66GHz) 3GB RAM 2x250GB SATA RAID1 - Web/DB

1 x CentOS5 x86_64

1 x Plesk - 10 Domain Licence

1 x Total Bandwidth for the solution: 200 GB

1 x PROprotection includes:

1 x Intelligent Backup

1 x Managed Cisco ASA Firewall

1 x Server Maintenance and Patch Updates

1 x Proactive Uptime and Capacity Threshold Monitoring

1 x McAfee Anti-Virus

1 x Annual Full Server Security Audit

1 x Dashboard, Alert Control Centre and SafeDNS

1 x SLA + 24/7/365 Emergency Telephone Support

1 x Standard Upgrade Policy Discount Valid Until 1st April 2009

1 x BASEfund Discount

My questions are: How important to the upkeep of my site are these services? I use siteground for our ZA domain, would they be able to offer a similar level of service?

I am complete novice really when coming to host sites, I have hosted 2 very small sites and my companies main site gets around 20,000 visitors a month so would be concerned about maintaining that level.

Any advice you could give would be great.

Thanks!

The answer is no

that equipment is too much for 20K visits

Get Microsoft Azure Start with a basic shared server

As more views occur, increase the specs as more users hit the site Its very simple to do

Unfortunately it is difficult to provide you advice without knowing more about the system

I am a IT Projects and Operations Manager and have implemented major systems. I cannot comfortably give you advice without knowing more

You should hire a consultant for a few days and let them provide feedback

Alternatively, use someone like Microsoft Azure where you can scale your servers as the load increases

Are you looking for web hosting for you or for your comany? Your company pays over 3k a year because they have a pretty nice web server that needs to handle a lot of people.

If you don't know a lot about web hosting and you are looking for web hosting, I have heard good things about TeamTreeHouse's web hosting. (I personally have never used it, I run a window VPS).

For my company. All I would like to know really is for 20k visits per month is it necessary to spend so much on hosting.
