Website Building Platforms for Clients ??

Hi,

Recently I've come across these webdesign platforms such as wixs and squarespace and am fairly interested in them. What I'd like to know is do any more experienced designers use these type of platforms, to create websites for certain types of clients?

The reason I ask is because I have a couple of potential clients who only want a simple website between 1 -5 pages. Since am a beginner, I don't feel I'd be able to achieve as good a result than if I used one of these platforms, so it could be more beneficial all round. Any thoughts or insight would be helpful ?

Hi there!

I would highly recommend learning wordpress.org instead of Wix. It won't take you very long to get familiar with it and even as a beginner you can create amazing looking websites.

Wordpress can help you achieve the expected quality for those potencial websites and as you progress as a designer/developer you can apply your code skills to customize your future works.

Plus! teamtreehouse offers amazing wordpress tutorial from basic to theme development.

Good Luck!

Hi,

I would second Iban's views on this. Wix and similar are not good for use with clients' works. You are much better off with the likes of Wordpress. There are others too, but you can get the lessons on WP on treehouse.

Square Space & Weebly both allow you to use custom CSS, create templates for your customers and export your site if you want it host it else where.

Wix probably generally a poor choice, due to vendor lock in you can't customize it with CSS or modify it using anything else but Wix.

Thanks James, I'll look further into Weebly. Since there are already some word press tutorials available on here, I guess the most practical thing for me to do, regarding quicker web design, is to start learning how to create custom themes for it.
