What display value generates a block element that flows with surrounding content?

I use display: block, inline-block- and inline and I still was not able to pass this challenge.

style.css
/* Complete the challenge by writing CSS below */

header {
  text-align: center;
}
.logo {
  width: 110px;
  margin: auto;
}
.main-nav li{
  display: block;
  float:left;
}

            <ul class="main-nav">
                <li><a href="#">Ice cream</a></li>
                <li><a href="#">Donuts</a></li>
                <li><a href="#">Tea</a></li>
                <li><a href="#">Coffee</a></li>
            </ul>
        </header>
    </div>
    </body>
</html>

You don't need to change anything on index.html only on style.css

.main-list li { display: inline-block; }

1 Answer

inline-block will work. Using float:left; would be throwing it off. Floats are useful in other ways for layout, but not what this particular task is calling for.

Inline-block will let each <li> remain a block-level element, while at the same time allowing surrounding content (the other <li>s) to flow around it as though it's inline.

.main-nav li {
  display: inline-block;
}
