What do you all think of Weebly?

I was wondering what you guys think about designing websites using weebly.com. I am new to this but I am thinking this is going to be the future of websites design. I have been playing with their new platform for designers and the new application plugins seem very impressive. What Do you guys think? Is weebly a good competitor of wordpress these days. I want to make websites for small business in a timely manner. am I going in the right direction?

Personally I would stay with Wordpress, Wordpress is becoming more and more popular and is much better equipped than Weebly.

Building small websites will Wordpress is also relatively easy so you should use that for your web development or you can even use both at the start and choose the one you like best.

Weebly gives me a complete white label platform. My customers can log in to it and even use the drag and drop features to make little edits themselves, if I allow them to. Can Wordpress do this? Thanks for your reply Ryan

Personally .. everytime I see a website made with Weebly i snicker because I personally find their sites unprofessional for companies .. especially free ones. Its fine for people looking for something personal and have no web design experience.

I agree with Paul, wordpress is vastly more ahead than weebly. It is a great platform to use.

But I always like doing it myself :)

Personally, I would avoid Weebly and just stick with WordPress for creating quick and convenient sites. WordPress has a very large community of developers and designers and the amount of plugins/themes for it keep on growing.

This is what I have done so far with weebly. I would truly appreciate it if you guys would take a look at it and give me some feed back . Mind you that as soon as I decide to start this business it will be completely white label. Be gentle I know I have a lot to learn, that's why I am here. I will leave up until 2 pm today.

The design. Looks great!

However, trying to promote yourself as a web design business by using the developer app? Will restrict you in getting a web design job, or as a business. Im not trying to bash your hopes and dreams, but you need to know how to code, not drag and drop.

When you can create this website using the proper code, html, css, javascript etc.... then props to you as a designer/developer.

But do yourself the favor, learn the code!

Good luck in the future!

Thank you, I am currently learning HTML, CSS and Java. I am in college and an avid user of Treehouse and other MOOC applications. As you can see my prices are low and I don't want to mislead people. My goal is to help a small business build and maintain an affordable website and make some money so I can finish school. I will take web designer and development off the site, but what terminology do you think I should use?

Hey,

I do understand what you are trying to do with your business and such. But me coming from a Business and Marketing background, you need to think that you are offering services for money which are actually free, if your customer goes directly too weebly. Basing your expertise on weebly is an option, yes ... but are your customers really willing to pay for it? When they could go to weebly directly spend acouple days learning it, and poof we dont need to pay your monthly "support" fees anymore.

If you want to create a successful business, you need to give them a good value proposition, and personally making them a website on a free website builder is not one of them. Thats where learning the actual code comes in handy, its only something YOU can do for your customer, and therefore you create that "We need you" feeling with your customer.

Weebly is targeted toward people with no coding experience. I would not use it for business purposes. As everyone else has said, Wordpress is the way to go. It's still fairly easy for your clients to make small changes themselves if necessary.
