What do you think about layout (building a web design elements gallery)

Hi guys!

I am currently building web design elements gallery.. .. Since it users will be mostly web designers I thought I ask some UX advice from You.. (there are 36 categories of design elements.. so menu is big and over 6000 elements at the moment.... so lot of stuff to accommodate...)

What do you think about this layout? Is it comfortable to use?

First of all - great concept! It's great for inspiration and I've already bookmarked it.

  • The menu is nice and well categorized.
  • The logo is very confusing to the point of being unreadable. There should be a link back to the root/index on it as well.
  • Since some sections have numerous pages perhaps allow the user to select the number of images to show per page.
  • The pure white in the main column is almost distracting somehow. I would suggest greying it slightly or apply a very subtle background to complement the white would be nice, although it would have to be gentle enough not to detract the eye from the images.
  • The single column layout for the images leaves a lot of white space in some cases and also makes the page long. Perhaps look into a grid plugin.
  • On the image header where it states where the image is from think about having those all link back to the respective sites.

Have the sidebar scroll independently of the main page so you don't have to scroll back top to get to it. Logo above sidebar needs to go and rework the main one so its less Microsoft word 97. Love the idea and great start. :)

for a content listing like this, i would love the ability to scroll the sidebar and content area independently, can try an absolute positioning divs with some hidden overflow content and vertical scroll added (just like the experience using Mail on iPad).. :)
