What is SmartClient? And how do I use it?

Hi all!

So at my job I've been using Node and express for the backend work, but now I might get a new project which requires me to use PHP. So for so good. Another requirement that my boss just brought up was "Smart Client", she didn't know what it was herself and I will get more information later on.

The thing is I have been trying to find information about it during the last few hours but I feel that the information I find is hard for me to digest.

So I figured Treehouse is as always a great place to come with questions!

What is Smart Client? And how do I use it? Do you know any good place where I can learn more? What do you need to know to be able to work with it?

The reason I ask now when I could probably just wait for the extra information I will receive later is that I like to prepare myself.
