what is the difference between "git add filename" then "git commit -m "message"" .........., and "git commit -a -m "mes"

what is the difference between

  1. "git add filename" then "git commit -m "message"" ..........,
  2. git commit -a -m "message"

can you explain the mission for each one of them, or the difference between them, or what is the mission of the -a flag ?

with git add, you need to explicitly name the files to commit, then with git commit -m "message", you are committing to the repo. With git commit -a -m "message", you are adding all changed files and committing them at the same time.
