Java Java Objects (Retired) Harnessing the Power of Objects Throwing Exceptions

What is wrong with my code? go kart challange

Please explain what am i doing wrong in the IllegalArgumentException part! It says: Make sure you throw the exception before change the mBarsCount field.

GoKart.java
public class GoKart {
  public static final int MAX_BARS = 8;
  private String mColor;
  private int mBarsCount;

  public GoKart(String color) {
    mColor = color;
    mBarsCount = 0;
  }

  public String getColor() {
    return mColor;
  }

  public void drive() {

    drive(1);

  }

  public void drive(int laps) {
    // Other driving code omitted for clarity purposes
    if ( mBarsCount < laps ); {
      throw new IllegalArgumentException("Not enought battery remains");

    }
    mBarsCount -= laps;

  }

  public void charge() {
    while (!isFullyCharged()) {
      mBarsCount++;
    }
  }

  public boolean isBatteryEmpty() {
    return mBarsCount == 0;
  }

  public boolean isFullyCharged() {
    return mBarsCount == MAX_BARS;
  }

}

Hi Ivan Gadza,

please post your error.

Hi Ivan,

The problem is being caused by a semi-colon after the if conditional.

if ( mBarsCount < laps ); // should not be a semi-colon here

Cheers

I get an error saying: Make sure you throw the exception before change the mBarsCount field.

I was looking at the code for 20 minutes and everything seemed logical.Thank you so much.
