Where does ”position” come from

I understand pretty much everything explained BUT:

From what source is the "position" parameter in DayAdapter class passed in?.

My guess is that all of this runs automatically when the setListAdapter method is called in the activity, but I don't know if I'm right.

Yes, the ListView will automatically call its adapter on all the list items it needs to render. The position parameter is the position of the item in the ListView, for the list item it's currently asking to render.
