Why would I use JavaScript for this task. There is minimal functionality?

I the hope of not seeming dense here; why would JavaScript be used?

I understand the code. I understand its functionality and the important usage for other tasks. What I am not quite grasping is the wider reaching perspective of why I would use JS here when the functionality required for this directory is minimal. Pets names, a short description of the pet and a picture or two seems like something much easier carried out in HTML and CSS as there is mostly just content and aesthetic here?

Sorry for the newbie question!

Thanks

Remember that the lesson examples are intended to illustrate the use of particular technique and will almost never be the only way to implement a specific objective and perhaps not even be the best way.

But in this case HTML is still being used, being generated by the JavaScript code. You could certainly hand-code the HTML to display a particular set of data, but updating the page with more or different data later would be a more labor-intensive maintenance task. The code itself would also be less compact, and particularly if the data set were to grow considerably, the page could take significantly longer to load.
